Former militant chief threatens to expose NGO leaders

Shillong, May 13: Former militant leader Bernard N Marak on Sunday threatened to expose NGO leaders of Garo Hills who allegedly targeted his business establishment in Tura recently.

“I assure you that I’ve more pages to open than you guys and people will be very happy to know the truth,” Marak said.

Marak said he took over the GLR Pharmaceuticals only after clarifying with the administration that there was no illegality and that they have no issue against the firm.

He said there is no legal stand in the claims of these NGOs against GLR Pharmaceuticals and it is targeted because they (NGO leaders) need their “haftas”.

Marak also asked why the NGO leaders don’t raise their voice against issues concerning the people like poor performance of Garo students in board exams.

“They are never there when there is water crisis in Tura and other such issues concerning the people. They have to be paid to raise an issue like they were paid this time. They chose issues to popularize themselves and raise only those issues which are communal,” Marak added.

The former chief of the erstwhile ANVC (B) also said the NGO leaders claim to be guardians of the indigenous people but they are actually betrayer of the Garo people.

“Where were they when the indigenous people of Rongkachiring (494 families) were being evicted? Where were they when women groups were raising their voice against atrocities against women? Why don’t they raise voice against non-payment of salaries to the GHADC employees” Marak asked.

He also threatened that he would move court if his freedom to trade freely is disturbed by these pressure groups.

“We have applied for TNT and it is upto the GHADC to issue it or not after proper verification of the claims by the NGOs,” Marak added.
