SHILLONG: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) has condemned the statement made by Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on the Citizenship Amendment Bill, 2016, by saying that there is nothing in it that will harm the nation. “This statement by the CM of Tripura is misleading and its untrue because if this citizenship amendment bill becomes an act crores of Bangladeshi will be able to become permanent citizens of India and we the minority indigenous community will be bulldozed by these people from across the border and we will also lose all our power in our own land,” Robertjune Khar Jahrin president HYC central body said here on Tuesday.

He said the intension of the BJP led government in the centre is to convert Meghalaya into a land for Hindu settlers from Bangladesh with an objective to strengthen their vote bank. “The BJP prefers Hindu from Bangladesh then the indigenous people of Khasi and Jaintia Hills,” he said.

The Council is of the opinion that the BJP has an intension to implement the Tripura Model in all of North East India. “The Tripura model is a ploy of the BJP to bring in Bangladeshi to settle in India as is the case in Tripura. At present in Tripura the indigenous community are in the minority and outsiders are become a majority,” he said. Robertjune Khar Jahrin said that the BJP is trying to do what is being done in Tripura in other states of North east India.
