SHILLONG: Mud and landslides buried two persons at the Shillong Police Reserve on Thursday taking the toll in such incidents to six across the State in the last few days. The persons have been identified as S Marak and Chilna Marak, informed the Superentendent of Police ( City) Vivek Syiem.

The tragic incident happened when the duo had gone there to clear the mudslide. However, a second bout of landslide burried the part-time workers of the Police department. Their bodies have been retrieved. Meanwhile, the police has evacuated at least six families from the precarious areas located in the vicinity.

Following heavy rains that lashed the State in the last 24 hours, Baghmara and Tura have remained cut off after the the Daldam River swept away connecting wooden bridge. There were similar reports where two houses were washed away in the Umsamlem area of Ri Bhoi District. No casualty has been reported in this incident.

The district administrations have issued advisories for residents living in the vulnerable areas.
