SHILLONG, July 5: The Jaintia Students Movement (JSM) central body has urged the state government for creation of a civil sub division under Laskein, C&RD Block West Jaintia Hills district. The Movement also submitted a memorandum to the Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma demanding the setting up of a police outpost in Psiar village under Jowai police station, Hur5oi village under Lumshnong police station and Lakadong village under Khliehriat police station and also the establishment of a government college in East Jaintia Hills district.
“The village under the said C&RD Block are located in far flung areas from Jowai the district headquarter of West Jaintia Hills district thus the people have to spend considerable amount of money and time for any official works in the office of the Deputy Commissioner, which could be save if there is an office of civil sub division in Laskein area,” Leningstar Rymbai president of JSM said.
He informed that there are around 100 villages and a population of nearly one lakh people in Laskein areas and spread over an area of over 800 square kilometers. Moreover under Laskein Block villages like Khatkasla, Psiar, Mowluber and other Pnar village under Block-I which are disputed areas between Assam and Meghalaya.
