MDA partners drum up support for NPP candidate at Ampati

Shillong, May 23: Two more regional parties have joined the Ampati by-election campaign bandwagon in favour of the NPP candidate and against the Congress, and more particularly against former CM Mukul Sangma whose 27-year old daughter Mianmi D Shira is the Congress candidate from the constituency.

With the bye-polls slated for May 28, the Congress and the ruling parties combined are in virtual verbal loggerheads. After the Chief Minister and NPP leader Conrad K Sangma’s vociferous campaign, supplemented by United Democratic Party (UDP) leaders, two other legislators from the HSPDP and PDF have joined the attack against the Congress and Mukul Sangma on Wednesday.

The HSPDP and PDF today campaigned for NPP candidate Clement G Momin at Sapthoka, Chondonpara and Joyfur to project unity among the regional partners under the leadership of Conrad K Sangma.

“We have started our development journey under Conrad K. Sangma’s leadership. All our feedback for Ampati constituency is very positive. We heard of misinformation campaign by the Congress that regional parties will align with them. Let me tell on behalf of PDF that we are united and together with NPP,” said Banteidor Lyngdoh at Joyfur village. Likewise, the regional parties and independent MLAs, who are part of Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) have asserted that MDA Government would complete its full term.

“We are 100 per cent united and we have total of 37 MLAs. Congress party has to sit in opposition. So there is no point to support the Congress,” said Lambor Malgniang, an Independent MLA and Chairman of Meghalaya State Planning Board.

HSPDP MLA Renikton Lyngdoh said, “Conrad K Sangma is a young and dynamic leader. We foresee progress and development in Meghalaya under his leadership.” In a similar tone Urban Affairs Minister and PDF leader Hamletson Dohling said, “It is a very important election as Clement G Momin is not just the candidate of the NPP but of the MDA Government and we appeal to the people to give him the mandate.”
