SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Cabinet on Monday approved two-year post-graduate diploma courses in Child Health, Gynecology and Obstetrics, informed Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong after a Cabinet meeting.

This diploma training for MBBS graduates will be recognised by the State government, said Tynsong adding that at present there is a shortage of 121 specialist doctors in the State.

Tynsong informed that for the specialisation courses, the State government will annually spend around Rs 55 to Rs 60 lakh. "The initial investment for creating the infrastructure will be around Rs two crore," said Tynsong. The Deputy Chief Minister also informed that the government will engage expertise from outside the State to run the courses.
