Meghalaya conducts field training on Gaultheria fragrantissima

SHILLONG: The Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD) Node, Meghalaya in association with Institute of Natural Resources, Meghalaya conducted field training on Gaultheria fragrantissima (Fragrant Wintergreen).

Locally known as Jathynrait and Lathynrait, the field training was held on Tuesday under Himalayan Bioresource Mission at Mawbeh, East Khasi Hills District, Meghalaya. IBSD is organizing a series of such programmes to promote local traditional medicinal plants propagation, cultivation aiming for livelihood generation under its various programmes.

Under the Himalayan Bioresources Mission various programmes are initiated related to advanced research focusing on agriculture, horticulture, medicinal and aromatic plants and microbial resources, while taking up translational research for societal development. The training programme initiatives at IBSD node Meghalaya and its headquarter at Imphal was led by Prof. Pulok K. Mukherjee, Director of the Institute.

In this training programme, propagation and cultivation of Gaultheria fragrantissima (Fragrant Wintergreen) was depicted by slide presentation followed by field demonstration of agri-practices to farmers of Mawbeh.
