SHILLONG: Meghalaya on Tuesday recorded 72 new COVID-19 cases and 73 recoveries, the Health department informed.

Of the 72 new cases, East Khasi Hills recorded, 54 (armed/paramilitary forces: two; civilians: 50); West Garo Hills: seven (armed/paramilitary forces: three; and civilians: four); Ri-Bhoi: five; East Garo Hills: four; and South Garo Hills: two (all civilians).

The total active cases in Meghalaya now stands at 1,193 with East Khasi Hills accounting for the 841 cases (armed/paramilitary forces: 209; civilians: 632); West Garo Hills: 118 (armed/paramilitary forces: 78; civilians: 40); East Garo Hills: 81 civilians; Ri-Bhoi: 60 (armed/paramilitary forces: six; and civilians: 54); West Khasi Hill: 45 civilians; East Jaintia Hills: 18 civilians; South Garo Hills: 16 (armed/paramilitary forces: 11; civilians: five); North Garo Hills: nine civilians: South West Garo Hills: three civilians; and West Jaintia Hills: two civilians.

Meanwhile, out of the 73 new recoveries, East Khasi Hills has 65 cases (armed/paramilitary forces: 12; and civilians: 53); West Garo Hills: five (armed/paramilitary forces: one; civilians: four); and East Garo Hills: three civilians. The State now has 1,235 recovered cases and 12 deaths. While the number of samples sent for testing till date are 90,477, a total of 87,455 persons tested negative; and the results of 582 samples are awaited.

The number of entrants from outside of Meghalaya till Tuesday afternoon are 32,842.

TOLL RISES: It may be mentioned that on Tuesday night, two more COVID-19-related deaths were reported in Meghalaya taking the tally of patient who died from the pandemic to 12.

The first patient who was brought death at Nazareth Hospital identified as Jagadish Prasad Shah, 65, from Riat Laban. He was brought dead at Nazareth Hospital on August 30 at 10.45 PM. His sample was taken and found to be COVID-19 positive.

While another 60 year-old patient Sunil Kumar Jain a resident of Jhalupara was admitted in NEIGRIHMS on August 30 evening. He expired at around 7 pm on August 31. He was COVID - 19 positive with co-morbidities.
