SHILLONG: Meghalaya, on Wednesday, recorded 49 new COVID-19 cases and 42 recoveries, informed Director of Health Services (MI) Dr Aman Warr.

Of the new cases, East Khasi Hills reported the maximum number of 32 cases (armed and paramilitary forces: two; civilians: 30; followed by East Garo Hills (nine); West Garo Hills: seven (armed and paramilitary forces: six; One civilian; and Ri-Bhoi (one civilian).

With the new cases, the total active cases are now 1,168, with East Khasi Hills: 822 (armed and paramilitary forces: 287 and civilians: 535); West Garo Hills: 172 (armed and paramilitary forces: 102; civilians: 70); Ri-Bhoi: 78 (armed and paramilitary forces: seven; civilians: 71); West Khasi Hills: 43; North Garo Hills: 13; East Garo Hills: 12; South Garo Hills: 12 (armed and paramilitary forces: 10; civilians two); East Jaintia Hills: 12; West Jaintia Hills: three; and South West Garo Hills: one.

The total recovered cases so far are 874. The recovered cases on Wednesday are 42 with West Garo Hills reporting 32 (armed and paramilitary forces: 27; civilians: five); East Khasi Hills: seven civilians; and South West Garo Hills: three civilians.

Of the 79, 126 samples sent for testing till date, while 76, 654 samples tested negative; results of 431 are being awaited.

A total number of 31, 084 persons have entered the state.

Meanwhile, Dr. Warr informed that a mentally challenged person who had tested positive for the virus died after he collapsed in the bathroom on Wednesday afternoon. He, however clarified that as of today the death cannot be counted due to COVID-19. "The doctors will take a call on the cause of death," Dr. Warr said.

The patient identified as Rajendra Shah (70) a resident of 29 Cantonment, Anjalee was brought dead to the Shillong Civil Hospital at around 3:30 pm. He was asymptomatic and was under quarantine at home, said the Director of Health Services.
