Meghalaya Residents Safety & Security Bill approved by State Cabinet

Meghalaya State Cabinet approved the Amended Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Bill, 2019 in the form of an ordinance on Friday.

People from outside who come in the form of tenants, labourers, tourists and another purpose of the visit, will have to register in their own interest as well as for the interest of Meghalaya by the existing amending Act.

The registration process was taken by the Cabinet by amending the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act, 2016 to facilitate outsiders to register with the state authorities.

However, after the meeting, the State Government will redraft the existing rules to ensure the simplest procedures are in place for registration and the registration will also be done online said Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong.

He further added, under section 176/177 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) any person who fails to furnish the information will be liable for punishment.
