IMPLEMENTATION OF ENTRY & EXIT POINTS

A REPORTER

SHILLONG: Social organizations of Meghalaya comprising the KSU, GSU, FKJGP, HNYF, AYWO, RBYF and ADE have written to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Tuesday expressing their anguish and unhappiness over the delay in implementing the first phase of the 'Entry and Exit Points' as per the Meghalaya Residents Safety & Security Act 2016.

In a memorandum addressed to Chief Minister Sangma, the NGOs lamented that since the inception of the Act, the successive Governments did very less on the issue while always assuring of speedy and immediate implementation of the Act at every meeting. However, the letter stated that "it is very unfortunate that till date, not even the first phase of the project is operational".

The conglomeration of NGOs cited the example of Manipur whereby ILP has been implemented immediately once it was notified by the Central Government.

The NGOs suggested that the Government of Meghalaya should take a cue from Manipur.

The NGOs further suggested that it is necessary to conduct a pilot project on the Entry & Exit Points in view of the ongoing Corona pandemic so as to regulate the entry of outsiders into the State. The first phase of the Entry & Exit Points consist of the areas of Malidor, Byrnihat Borbhuin, Athiabari, Medhipara Junction, Abhirampara, Chibinang, Bhoglurbitha, Phulbari (Ghat), Rajabala, Singimari Trijunction, Tangaon, Baljek Airport, Mirjumla, Jhunjuni, Dainadubi, Manikganj, Nalbari Railway Station, Mendipathar Railway Station, Mendipathar Bazar, Khaldang and Bajengdoba.
