KOKRAJHAR: The United Bodo People’s Organization (UBPO) on Wednesday formed the Meghalaya state committee to give a united platform to different Boro organizations. The Meghalaya state committee of the UBPO was formed through a public meeting held at Borodaldonga village,Tikrikhilla in Meghalaya. The public meeting was chaired by Amarendra Brahma, president of the Meghalaya state Bodo Sahitya Sabha (BSS). The Meghalaya state committee of the UBPO was formed with Rupkumar Boro of Khantal Bari Tikrikhilla as president and Abhijit Mwsahary of Borodoldonga. Tikrikhlla serves as general secretary along with other executive members.

Addressing the public meeting, the CEM of Boro Kachari Welfare Autonomous Council (BKWAC), Mihiniswar Basumatary, who was the founder president of UBPO, said the Bodos living in different places of the world should focus on unification and come together to form a united platform, which is the only way to economic and social development as well as protection of their identity, culture, language, and literature. He called upon all to think for the betterment of society and work together for it.

Anil Basumatary, E.M. of Education, BKWAC, and founder general secretary of the organization, said the growth and development of a community are based on education, and everyone, therefore, must focus on education, keeping in mind that education is the key to development in all spheres. Restoration of peace in the area would be our first priority in the present context for a distinct identity and to live with dignity and honour on par with the rest of the country.

Meanwhile, the president of the UBPO, Manuranjan Basumatary in his speech as the chief guest, said the UBPO had an aim to bring all Bodo organizations together to work for the development of the Bodo. He said the organization had been giving priority to uniting all by removing ideological differences for the greater interest of society. He hoped that the new Meghalaya state committee of the UBPO would play an important role in that context.

The meeting was also attended by the general secretary of UBPO, Pitambar Brahma, the vice president, and local intellectuals.
