Guwahati: One more Covid-19 patient in Meghalaya has recovered from the Covid-19 contagion on Friday. With this latest Covid-19 recovery, the total number of infected persons in the state has gone down to 24.

"A person from North Garo Hills District has recovered and tested negative twice. 24 cases are active", Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma wrote on Twitter.

In an encouraging development, Meghalaya has not reported any new cases of the Covid-19 in the past 24 hours. It needs mention here that 5 Covid-19 patients in Meghalaya recovered from the respiratory illness on Thursday.

Meghalaya registered its latest case of the virus on June 10, when a pregnant woman, who is due to deliver a child in a week, tested positive. Earlier, her husband had also tested positive for the virus. "One high-risk contact of a positive patient has tested positive for Covis-19 in Shillong. The person is under medical supervision", Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma tweeted.

It is pertinent to mention here that Meghalaya reported its first case on April 13, 2020. A complete curfew was also clamped in Shillong owing to the virus spread, bringing a complete halt to activities in the capital. Gradually, 12 more people -- the late index patient's relatives, employees, and friends -- were tested positive in quick succession, taking the tally of cases in the state to 13.

At the same time, the number of Covid-19 positive cases in India has continued to rise at a dramatic rate, and 2,97,535 coronavirus cases have been registered so far, data from the Union Health Ministry showed this morning, crossing the COVID-19 tally of the United Kingdom. At the same time, 8,498 people have lost  their lives due to complications.
