Met office predicts moderate to heavy rainfall

Shillong, July 21: A day after Shillong city experienced one of the hottest days, the Met department has predicted rains for the next one week. It may be mentioned that on Friday Shillong grasped for breath at 29.1 degree Celsius. But on Saturday, the city experienced a few spells of thundershowers bringing down the maximum temperature to 25 degree Celsius and the minimum temperature to 19 degree Celsius. According to the Met department, the maximum of 29.1 degree Celsius on Friday was 5 degree Celsius above the normal temperature during this time of the year.

According to the Indian Metrological Department (IMD) website, Shillong will be experiencing generally cloudy sky with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers till July 25 and the maximum temperature has been pegged to hover around 24 to 25 degree Celsius.

On July 26 and 27, the Met department has predicted the temperature to be around 26 degree Celsius accompanied by rain or thundershowers.

Friday’s mercury level was the fifth highest temperature ever recorded in Shillong.
