NEIAH Organized Workshop on ‘Ayurveda for Longevity’

SHILLONG: The North Eastern Institute of Ayurveda and Homoeopathy, an autonomous institute under the Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India, Mawdiangdiang, Shillong, organized a one-day workshop on the occasion of fourth Ayurveda Day, 2019, at its campus recently. The theme of the day was ‘Ayurveda for Longevity’. The programme started with Dhanvantari puja at 8:30 am, followed by the first technical session at 9:30 am, in which Prof. (Dr.) Abhichal Chattopadhyay, Head of the Department of Maulik Siddhant, IPTR&SVVP, Kolkata, delivered a lecture on the importance of Ayurveda.

The inaugural function was graced by Tathagata Roy, Governor of Meghalaya as the chief guest. Delivering his speech, Governor Roy stated that Ayurveda is one among the alternative systems of medicine which treats the patients as a whole and not in parts, unlike the other system like Chiropathy, Osteopathy, etc. He also acknowledged the contribution of the Government of India in setting up the Institute of Ayurveda and Homoeopathy in Shillong which, he said, will give the path for more research of AYUSH in North East India.

Prof. (Dr.) A.C. Phukan, Dean (Academics), NEIGRIHMS, Shillong, also graced the occasion.

The function started with the lighting of the lamp and floral garlanding of Dhanvantari, followed by felicitation of the guests. A welcome address was delivered by Prof. (Dr.) P.K.Goswami, Director, NEIAH, which was then followed by honorary felicitation of 16 Ayurvedic scholars Dr.Anuradha Roy, former Associate professor, NEIAH, Dr.Anup Baishya, Dr. Pankaj Barman, Dr. Champak Medhi and a few more from Government Ayurvedic college and Hospital, Guwahati and other parts of North East for their immense contribution to the field of Ayurveda in North East India, stated a press release.

The vote of thanks was delivered by Kimchin Lhangum, Deputy Director, NEIAH, which was followed by singing of the National Anthem.
