NEIGRIHMS Director Clarifies On Exam Issue
Shillong: The Director of the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Science (NEIGRIHMS) has categorically labelled the disclosure of the two students aspiring for Doctor of Medicine (Cardiology) as an irresponsible statement. The two students has claimed that they were unaware of the deferment of the practical examination that was supposed to be held on the July 10 and 11.
Stating that the administration of the institute want to clarify on the issue, the director stated that a notification (No. NEIGR/Exam/DM/2018/15-2451 dated 9.7.19) was issued to inform all concerned that the DM (Cardiology) Practical Examination 2019 scheduled on July 10 and 11 is deferred till further orders. So if the candidates were informed on July 9 regarding postponement of the practical exams, and they still went for practicals on July 10, the institute is in no way responsible.
The statement from NEIGHRIMS further stated, “To elaborate, every professional examinations including MBBS, MD, MS, DM has two parts, one is theory part conducted by the Examination Cell of the institute and the second part is practical, where in two internal examiners from the department concerned and two external examiners from a panel of experts from other institutions/medical colleges are called.
In the present case of DM examinations, the theory paper has already been conducted by the institute from June 24 to July 1. The Controller Examination, NEIGRIHMS, wrote a letter to HoD (Cardiology) for intimating the names of two internal examiners by June 26 for the upcoming practicals. In the meantime, the HoD in a letter dated 25th June 2019 to the Director NEIGRIHMS, hinted at not participating in the practicals of the DM students. The Director, in response vide his letter dated 26th June requested the HoD to cooperate for smooth conduction of the examination in the interest of the students.
The Director further advised the HoD to co-ordinate with the Dean and Controller Examinations in this regard.
Two external examiners as per procedure were contacted, who first accepted the invitation for conducting the practical examination of the DM Cardiology, but at the last moment declined to come citing personal reasons. I/C Dean therefore issued an examination deferment notification on July 9.
