NGOs Do Not Have Authority To Check Trade License: KHADC

SHILLONG: The Executive Member in-charge Enforcement of Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) Teibor Pathaw has said that NGOs do not have the authority to check trading licences in areas under the jurisdiction of the council. However, it’s the duty of the enforcement wing of the council.

“It is the duty of the enforcement wing of the council to conduct such checking on trading licences if the council feels that it is needed. However, it is not the duty of the NGOs,” he said while speaking to The Sentinel.

He also said that if the pressure groups have identified a few shops which are operating their business illegally without proper documents then they should inform the council before taking the matter into their own hands.

“If the department receives such a complaint from any NGOs then the council will take action by sending the enforcement wing of the council to verify the paper work of those people,” he said.

He informed that a meeting was also held with the State Government to strengthen the enforcement wing of the council

“As of right now, the present strength of the numbers of enforcement personnel at the district council is only around 67,” he said.
