Shillong, July 8 : While by-election to the Ranikor Assembly seat is not far away, the Congress is planning to extend support to People’s Democratic Front (PDF) chief Pynshngaiñ N Syiem. If this plan of the Congress materializes, the political career of Syiem would come a full circle. It may be mentioned that the PDF chief was formerly a Congress legislator from Mawsynram but left the party after differences with Mukul Sangma. He, however, lost the 2018 elections to Congress candidate Himalaya M Shangpliang. Soon after Ranikor seat was vacated by former Congress legislator Martin M Danggo, Syiem has been projecting himself as a consensus candidate from there. According to sources, Congress is trying to take advantage of the crisis in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) where Syiem is the Chief Executive Member (CEM).
