Ready to accept Cheristerfield as a negotiator: Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council

SHILLONG: The Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) on Sunday stated that it was ready to accept its former general secretary, Cheristerfield Thangkhiew as a negotiator between the present HNLC leadership and the government.

In a press statement issued to the media on Sunday, the HNLC reiterated that the problem that exists in the indigenous Hynniewtrep race cannot be ignored and only when there is a negotiation between the outfit and the Indian government then only the complexity of the conflict can be understood.

“Cordial discussion (between the parties) is the only powerful weapon,” said Sainkupar Nongtraw, the newly elected “acting general secretary” of the proscribed Khasi outfit.

Nongtraw also said that there was some truth in the statement of Thangkhiew, that the ongoing problem of insurgency in the country was due to the failure of the Indian National Congress. However, the HNLC pointed out that if one goes to the root of things those people who formed the BJP or the NPP are politicians who left the Congress.

“There is no difference they are like wolf and fox that come from the same dog family,” Nongtraw said.

“All these political parties cannot go beyond the law under the jurisdiction of India,” the HNLC said.

The acting general secretary of the HNLC also said that politicians form new parties because they want to remain in power.

The HNLC also pointed out that the Government of India is using the politicians of Meghalaya as “modern tribal magicians” who have been bought and brainwashed so that they can go to the people to mislead them about the objectives of the outfit which is demanding a sovereign Khasi homeland in Meghalaya.

Moreover, the HNLC also said that leaders of the outfit come and goes but its objectives stay forever and there will be no compromise on the fight for a “Hynñiewtrep Sovereign State” by surrendering or accepting the rehabilitation package until the government of India gives recognition to the Hynñiewtrep people as a race.

Nongtraw also said that Thangkhiew’s contribution to the Khasi outfit as well as the indigenous people will not go waste and forming the HNLC has already become a part of history.
