 Residents of Mawkhan Pasir File RTI On Alleged Misuse of Funds

SHILLONG: Around 12 people who are residents of Mawkhan Pasir under Mylliem Block had filed an Right To Information (RTI) on the alleged misuse of funds concerning the MGNREGA scheme for the year 2017 till 2019.

According to the people who had filed the RTI, the misuse of funds has amounted to around Rs 32 lakh from the sanctioned amount under the scheme for nine projects which amounts to Rs 93, 40, 450 lakh.

In this connection, they have also approached the Deputy Commissioner East Khasi Hills District Matsiewdor War to take up necessary action in this regard on June 24. However, no action was taken hence a reminding letter was also sent to the DC on July 29.

One of the person who had filed the RTI, Trycolor Kurkalang while speaking to reports on Monday said, “We have even sent a reminder to the DC concerning this matter however no action has been taken till date.”

He informed that according to the RTI, construction of motorable road at Mawkhan Pasir under MGNREGA 2017-19 work order and estimate was Rs 14, 77, 800 lakh. However, in a site inspection it was found that only Rs 10, 70, 220 lakh.

The RTI also revealed that the construction of motorable road from existing road to Thwei Kshong at Mawkhan Pasir under MGNREGA 2017-18 work order and estimate Rs 13, 00, 000 and in the site inspection it was revealed that only Rs 7, 86, 401 lakh.

“As residents of the area we are concern about corruption however if action is not being taken despite the revelation in the RTI then it’s a concern,” he said.

He also urged that the DC should immediately set up an inquiry into the matter and find out the reason behind the misuse of funds.

When asked, he said, “At present we can’t blame the Village Employment Council (VEC) or anyone concerning this issue but at the end of the day there is a need to find out the truth as who is involved in misusing the funds.”
