Section 144 CrPC Promulgated at Rilbong, Shillong

Shillong: The District Magistrate, East Khasi Hills district has promulgated an order under Section 144 CrPC prohibiting assembly of five or more persons within a radius of 500 meters of the temporary Assembly Chamber at Rilbong, Shillong, assembly of five or more persons within a radius of 100 meters of the Meghalaya Secretariat (Main and Additional Building). The order also prohibits any person or group of persons from obstructing any vehicular movement in the area around Meghalaya Legislative Assembly premises and also prohibits carrying of arms and any other lethal weapons or any other item or material having the potential to be used as a weapon which can likely cause grievous injury or harm to any person or persons in and around Meghalaya Legislative Assembly. The order will not be applicable to the Security Forces and Government Officers on official duty.

The order is necessitated in view of the Special Assembly Session of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly to be held on January 20, 2020 and that there is possibility that some organizations and groups may stage protests in front of the temporary Assembly Chamber, Rilbong, Shillong and State Secretariat building, during the Special Assembly Session and it is necessary to ensure peace and tranquillity and smooth conduct of the Special Session of the House and to avert any untoward incident and unlawful activity thereof.

This order shall come into force from 8 am of January 20 onwards till conclusion of the one-day special session.
