Shantivan nuns provide lunch to Shillong destitutes

The destitute people in the Meghalaya’s capital city are depending for their lunch on the Missionary of Charity here.

SHILLONG: The destitute people in the Meghalaya's capital city are depending for their lunch on the Missionary of Charity here. Every afternoon, the Shantivan nuns ensure that those waiting in front of the Charity gate do not go hungry. A large section of such impoverished elderly people carrying wearisome jobs like rag picking. All receive food served in paper plates.

An elderly man who had just finished his mid-day meal there said, " Without these sisters, we could have starved long ago. Many of us stay alone at whatever place we get during the night," Another said, "Since the lockdown, we are surviving because of the Charity sisters.

At the same time, the Charity sisters also make it doubly sure that these people are not allowed inside the premises which house the old-age people. One of those who depends on the food provided by the nuns said, "We start waiting in front of the gate by around 11 in the morning." All expressed their gratefulness to the missionaries for taking care of their food in these trying times.
