Two abducted girls of Garobadha village in South West Garo Hills rescued

SHILLONG: In yet another incident of abduction of girls in Garo Hills, two minor girls were kidnapped before being rescued.

Police, informed that the two minor girls of Garobadha village in South West Garo Hills district went with their cousin who is also minor to a place near Pipulbari in West Garo Hills district.

The 15-year old boy left them near a secluded part of the village and told them that he will pick them up later.

No sooner had the boy left, the girls saw some men approaching towards them when they began to raise an alarm.

Hearing the cries of the two girls, villagers came to their rescue but by then the men had already fled the area.

The 15-year-old-boy was apprehended by the villagers who later handed over him over to the police.

Meanwhile, West Garo Hills police chief Dr MGR Kumar said, “We are trying to ascertain as to what was going on and why the girls were left there.”

Moreover, police have registered a case and investigation is currently on.

This incident comes close on the heels of similar incidents last week.

A 13-year-old girl who disappeared from her home in Mendal village of North Garo Hills has been rescued by police from Guwahati city. The girl was found working in a food joint, where she had been abandoned by her abductor.

The teenager was noticed missing by her family on the morning of March 17 and despite search could not be found.

In another incident, a seven-year-old Garo girl from Kongkal village in North Garo Hills bordering Assam, was rescued on Thursday from the clutches of a woman who allegedly lured her to Krishnai town in Goalpara district.

Assam Police rescued the girl from Hahim Sukunya village on April 25, after she had gone missing a day earlier.

The minor girl had gone to Krishnai for shopping along with her family when the woman lured her away from her family. When she could not be found, the parents reported the matter to the Krishnai Police Station in Assam.

She was later reunited with her family and the abductor arrested.
