Two-day East Zone VCs’ meet starts today at North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) Shillong

SHILLONG: The Association of Indian Universities (AIU) an apex body of Higher Education in India will be organizing a two day East Zone Vice Chancellors meet starting today and conclude on the 19th, at North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) Shillong.

Around 60 Vice Chancellors of the Universities in the East Zone comprising of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkand, Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura, West Bengal, and part of Uttar Pradesh will participate in the meet.

Speaking to reporters at NEHU on Thursday, Prof. Furqan Qamar secretary general of AIU said, “The meet is related to higher education with specific reference to University system in the concerned region is normally taken up for discussion.”

He said that the recommendations of the Zonal meets are taken up for discussion at the annual general meeting of the association.

“These meets also play a pivotal role in carrying the voice if the leaders of higher education to appropriate authorities,” he said.

The AIU East Zone Meet will be inaugurated by Meghalaya Home Minister James K Sangma at NEHU campus on January 18, at 10am. The meet will be presided over by Prof. Sandeep Sancheti, president AIU and Prof. SK Srivastava Vice Chancellor NEHU.
