Two Japan-Aided Projects To Benefit Meghalaya

SHILLONG: Meghalaya will get shares from two big projects which will be sanctioned by Japan for the entire Northeast region amounting to 205.784 billion Yen, or Rs. 13,000 crore.

These two projects in the hill State include the Northeast Road Network Connectivity Improvement Project relating to Assam and Meghalaya, and the Northeast Network Connectivity Improvement Project.

The projects were decided at a meeting between the Minister of DoNER, Government of India Dr Jitendra Singh with the Ambassador of Japan to India, Kenji Hiramatsu at New Delhi recently.

Beside these two projects in Meghalaya, the other important projects in which Japan will cooperate and sanction funds includes the Guwahati Water Supply Project and Guwahati Sewage Project in Assam, Bio-diversity Conservation and Forest Management Project in Sikkim, Sustainable Forest Management Project in Tripura, Technical Cooperation Project for Sustainable Agriculture & Irrigation in Mizoram, Forest Management Project in Nagaland, beside other projects. Dr. Singh also lauded the aid given by Japan to change and uplift the entire Northeast region.
