SHILLONG: The United Democratic Party’s (UDP) Sohra and Laitkroh-Lyngkyrdem constituency unit on Thursday held a meeting with its leaders to strengthen the party base and to mobilize support for the common candidate of the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) Jemino Mawthoh, contesting the Lok Sabha polls from the Shillong Parliamentary seat.

The meeting was chaired by Phyrnai Nongrum, in the presence of Sohra circle president Titosstarwell Chyne, Laitkroh-Lyngkyrdem MDC Ryngkatlang Lyndem, Assistant Secretary, UDP Sohra, CS Marbaniang and Margaret Khyriem of the UDP Women’s Wing beside others.

Addressing party leaders attending the meeting, Titosstarwell Chyne said that the intention of the meeting is to drum up support for Jemino Mawthoh and to further strengthen the party in the region.

He informed that a public meeting will also be organized on April 8 at Sohra market in which Jemino Mawthoh will also be present.

“Regional parties within the MDA government are all working together to ensure that there is unity within the coalition alliance and even our Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma had also publicly supported our common candidate,” he said.

He said the victory of the MDA candidate in the LS polls will further strengthen the State Government and the Executive Committees in Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) and the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC).

Commenting on the statement made by the Congress against the UDP candidate, he said, “The Congress is always trying to mislead the people by accusing that Jemino Mawthoh and the UDP have ties with the BJP. This is completely false.”

Meanwhile, Chyne also congratulated the secretary of UDP Sohra circle Ryngkatlang Lyndem for his victory in the recent KHADC polls.
