World Environment Day: Plantation Drive Today In Shillong

SHILLONG: As part of the ‘Meghalaya One Citizen One Tree’ campaign to mark World Environment Day on June 5, the Soil and Water Conservation Department, Government of Meghalaya, through collaborative efforts with the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development Regional Office Shillong, have made plans to plant one million saplings across the 11 districts of the State.

At a cost of Rs 4.11 crore, this tree planting drive in 306 springsheds will be in tune with this year’s World Environment Day theme on “Air Pollution”.

This project envisages to address the challenges and the threat to the springs of the State which are the source of water and to ensure sustained yield and availability, especially during the lean dry months.
