Heroin worth lakhs seized by Assam Rifles in Mizoram

AIZAWL: In yet another success in its crusade against smuggling activities, the Aizawl Battalion of 23 Sector Assam Rifles, under the aegis of Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (East) along with personnel of the Excise & Narcotics Department recovered 48 grams of heroin (No-4), in the general area Thuampui in Mizoram on March 16.

The operation was carried out based on specific information. The approximate market value of the recovered narcotics is Rs 21,60,000. The Excise & Narcotics Department seized the contraband item, they also detained one individual.

The ongoing smuggling of drugs is a major cause of concern along the India-Myanmar Border and especially for the State of Mizoram. The Assam Rifles, also christened as the 'Sentinels of Northeast' have continued their efforts against the smuggling activities in Mizoram, stated a release.
