Training Programme Conducted for Counting Officials in Aizwal

Guwahati: A training programme for the counting officials of Kolasib was held at the conference hall of the Directorate of Information and Public Relations in Aizawl of Mizoram on Tuesday.

The training programme was conducted by Kolasib additional Deputy Commissioner and deputy district election officer,Lalthanpui Hnamte.

The officials were given a briefing on the responsibilities they will have under the Representation of the People Act 1961 on the counting day and reminded them of the do’s and don’ts as officials.

They were also given a detailed plan of the security measures, the counting of postal ballots and the vote counting system that is usually followed. The officials were given explanations on how to give election result reports using various forms and also regarding the announcement of results.

The Kolasib District Election Officer Dr Arun T, IAS requested those who will be on duty on counting duty to be cautious and careful with their work. The officials were instructed not to carry mobile phones, cigarettes or lighters within the counting area.

Those on duty will also not be permitted to leave their respective counting halls once they enter the building until the entire counting has been finalized.

Meanwhile, re-polling in the Ajasora polling station of Tuichawng Assembly seat in Mizoram passed off peacefully on Tuesday with around 87 per cent turnout of voters, according to State Election department officials.

The re-poll was ordered by the Election Commission as polling could not be completed due to technical snags in the electronic voting machines (EVMs) on November 28 when the Assembly election was held across the State.

Over 300 voters could not cast their vote in the polling station on that day due to persistent EVM problems.

Of the 1,080 voters of Ajasora, 940 people cast their votes, the officials informed.

Re-poll began at 7 am and concluded at 4 pm without any untoward incident and technical snag on this occasion
