12 Nagaland coronavirus patients test 'negative', recoveries soar to 22

Guwahati: 12 more Covid-19 patients have recovered from the disease on Wednesday, officials confirmed. With this, the total number of coronavirus patients who have recovered from the respiratory illness in the state rose to 22.

Moments after 4 patients from Dimapur tested negative for the contagion earlier today, 8 patients in the state capital Kohima also tested negative in their second test. "12 more patients have tested negative of COVID-19 in their second test. 8 are from Kohima, and 4 are from Dimapur. All the patients are under observation", Nagaland Health Minister S Pangnyu Phom tweeted.

Earlier in the day, one more person has tested positive for the dreaded Covid-19 in Nagaland on Wednesday, taking the overall tally up to 128. "Out of 273 samples tested, 1 new case of COVID-19 +ve from Kohima Quarantine Centre have been reported in the last 24 hours", Nagaland Health Minister S Pangnyu Phom informed on Twitter.

Nagaland, which was coronavirus-free two weeks ago, on Saturday become the fourth north-eastern State after Assam, Tripura, and Manipur with total positive cases in three digits. With the return of around four lakh natives from the south and north India, coronavirus cases in eight north-eastern States have spiked upwards at a dramatic rate.

At the same time, the number of cases has also contained to tick upwards in India at a dramatic rate. The country's coronavirus tally soared to 2,76,583 this morning with 9,985 new patients recorded in the last 24 hours. For the first time, number of those who have recovered overtook the active COVID-19 cases in the country. A total of 1,35,206 patients have recovered so far, while nearly 1.33 lakh are still taking treatment for the highly contagious disease.
