Jal Shakti Abhiyan Officer Holds Meeting in Nagaland

KOHIMA: The central nodal officer of Jal Shakti Abhiyan (JSA) for Longleng district Vineet Joshi, visited Longleng on and held meetings and field visits recently.

During his first visit to the district he held an emergency coordination meeting with the line departments and presented a clear picture of what Jal Shakti Abhiyan is all about and also how to go about to achieve the mission of the scheme.

Addressing the line departments at the DC’s conference hall, Joshi gave a brief introduction of the scheme which is place in Longleng for the last few days. He stressed that the programme is a new initiative by the present Government of India to provide free water supply in all the water scare districts of India. He informed that basically, the main mission of JSA is to identify the dry ponds, streams, rivers, wells, etc., and to rejuvinate it so that water flows not only during the monsoons but also during the dry winter season.

He informed that the main idea of the programme is to utilize the existing funds of all the line departments with regards to water conservation and rain water harvesting and hence, concerted efforts by all department is essential. He further stressed that the respective blocks and departments should come up with their plan and make a holistic/consolidated plan by the second week of August. He also urged the line departments to give a brief account on their respective activities related to water issue.

Earlier, Deputy Commissioner of Longleng John Tsulise Sangtam who chaired the programme, welcomed the members present for the emergency meeting. While welcoming the Central Nodal Officer, the DC also called on CNO, to clarify all doubts about JSA and at the same time urged the officers to express their doubt freely with the central nodal officer. The program concluded with vote of thanks by the DC, stated a DIPR release.
