Longleng-Tuensang Road To Be Upgraded From October, Benefit People of Three Districts

KOHIMA: The upgradation of the Longleng-Tuensang road project would be taken up at an estimated cost of Rs. 188 crore; out of which Rs. 75 crore was already released to the Nagaland PWD as the first installment. This was informed during the keynote address delivered by ‘Special Invitee’ Ram Muivah, Secretary, North Eastern Council (NEC), Shillong, at the consultative meeting on rehabilitation and upgradation of the Longleng-Tuensang Road under the North East Road Sector Development Scheme (NERSDS) at Sakshi EAC Headquarter, Longleng on Monday.

Muivah added that after completion of the tender formality the road project would be executed starting in the first week of October after the monsoon season is over. He further informed that it is a major district road and the existing 3 meter road will be extended with additional 7 meter surface along with both black toping and cementing in 5 meter, adding that the NEC will maintain the road for four years after completion of the project. With the upgradation of this road, it would fulfill the long cherished dreams of the people of three districts, stated a release. Muivah thanked the people of the region for their love and affection shown to him and said that it’s a memorable journey of his life which he would treasure it. “I decided to visit Sakshi to show my moral support and concern for the under privilege Eastern Nagaland,” he added.

During his four years in the NEC, he cited various development projects executed under NEC projects within Eastern Nagaland such as 46 KM road from Nokzang to Longding under Mon district and another 30 KM road from Mon to Konnubari will also be taken up soon. Providing computer facilities to GHS under Kiphire district and piggery feed meat project in Longkhim and Ginger project under Tuensang district.

Ram Muivah also acknowledged that former MP Asangba Sangtam who was the first person to approach him for development of Longleng-Tuensang road and later by S. Pangnyu Phom, Minister for H&FW who materialized it. He therefore, urged the people to recognize their hard efforts and their concern for development of the region for the people.

In his speech, S Pangnyu Phom — Minister for H&FW — lauded Ram Muivah, the department officers, individuals, NGOs, and acknowledged the contribution made by them for the project. He also informed the gathering that unlike other projects, Longleng – Tuensang road project will be 100% funded by the NEC and it would not benefit only the people of two districts but also the entire Eastern Nagas. He therefore, appealed to the people to come together to work together to progress together and clarified that no compensation shall be given to the landowners. He also appealed to the village councils to fully take the responsibility of the road under their respective jurisdiction for quality and speedy completion of the project as desired by all.
