Guwahati: Nagaland on Wednesday has registered 9 more Covid-19 cases, taking the tally in the state to 58. All 9 cases today have a travel history to Chennai in Tamil Nadu.

Nagaland Health Minister S Pangnyu Phom informed on Twitter that 115 samples were tested yesterday, out of which 9 samples returned a 'positive' result'.

Meanwhile, owing to a sharp rise in the number of Covid patients, the Nagaland Cabinet on June 1 resolved to convert the Tourist Lodge Dimapur into a dedicated Covid-19 hospital. With this, Dimapur will have two Covid-19 facilities -- the District Hospital Dimapur and the Tourist lodge.

It is pertinent to mention here that 6 more Chennai-returned citizens of Nagaland, all from Dimapur, had tested Covid-19 positive on Tuesday, officials confirmed. "Out of 90 samples tested from Chennai returnees, 5 Male & 1 Female have tested Covid-19 positive. All cases are from Dimapur", Nagaland Health Minister S Pangnyu Phom informed on Twitter.

It may be recalled here that Nagaland reported its first cases of the virus on Tuesday, May 26, after three persons who had returned from Chennai tested positive. Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio in a tweet said: "Unfortunately, two persons in Dimapur and one in Kohima have been tested positive for COVID-19. Please do not panic. We need to handle it with utmost care and responsibility. Necessary action of contact tracing and containment measures are being taken and situation closely monitored."

Since then, a string of cases -- all returnees from Chennai -- have been detected in the Northeast Indian state, which was the last in the country to report the coronavirus.
