Kohima: The National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation (NHIDCL) has pulled out from all activities concerning the construction of two-lane on NH202 from Akhegwo to Akash Bridge (Jessami) which falls under the Phek district of Nagaland.

The NHIDCL claimed that the locals have installed a large number of structures on the proposed RoW with the intention of receiving undue compensation.

The Managing Director has sent a letter to the Nagaland Chief Secretary in which they asserted that a drone movie has been prepared by them mentioning the structures which have recently appeared in an organized manner.

Further, the drone movie will be processed to receive compensation.

The Managing Director of NHIDCL has also questioned the role of the district administration in stopping the illegal encroachments.

The letter also stated that the order of the Deputy commissioner of Phek, which was dated July 20, 2021, did not have any effect on the locals. The managing director emphasised the fact that the district administration has been powerless to stop the illegal structures.

The managing director also added that the officials of the NHIDCL Department have not been effective in taking action against the issue.

The Chief Secretary of Nagaland has also been requested to instruct the concerned deputy commissioner to identify such structures that have been installed recently.

The Managing Director stated that if the illegal structures are removed then the compensation need not be paid to the "mischievous persons".

The letter further read, "I am afraid to inform you that till the structures are removed, we are withdrawing all further activities and have decided not to move the Ministry for approval of the project. I reiterate that we shall not take up this road unless the District Administration clearly demarcates the genuine structure(s) and removes the in-genuine ones."
