Campaigning in West Tripura constituency ends

Agartala: Campaigning came to an end this evening for the West Tripura Lok Sabha constituency that is going to polls on Thursday. Political parties organized road shows and processions across the constituency to make a last minute impact despite heavy rain this morning.

BJP candidate Pratima Bhaumik accompanied by Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb organized a roadshow in Agartala while Congress candidate Subal Bhaoumik and the CPI(M) candidate Shankar Prasad Datta organized processions in different areas. Separate bike rallies also were organized by all the political parties.

Sandip Mahatme, District Magistrate for West Tripura District, who is also the Returning Officer for West Tripura Constituency, said all arrangement has been made to ensure a free and fair election. Security forces have been deployed in all the polling stations including 180 booths identified as sensitive.

He expressed satisfaction as the campaigning remained by and large peaceful in the constituency. A total of 9,235 polling personal has been engaged to conduct the election who will leave for their respective booths from tomorrow. He said Election Commission has appointed four general observer, two expenditure observer, one special and one police observer. In addition, 1,270 micro observer also will keep vigil on the poll process.
