Mother sold jewelry to make daughter win Gold in Kickboxing

Guwahati: Kick-boxer Tracy Darlong from Tripura has made the nation proud by clinching a gold medal in the 55kg category at the National Savate Championship.

Darlong is now aiming for the prestigious prize at the Olympics. Darlong belongs from an economically poor background and she wouldn’t have had the funds to partake the tournament had her mother wouldn’t have sold her jewelry to support her daughter to compete in the prestigious game.

Darlong’s mother had sold her jewelry so that her daughter could participate in the National Savate Championship. Tracy knew exactly what she wanted to do in the event and much to everyone’s expectations she proved that she is worth the weight in gold.

Tracy Darlong lost her father last year and from then onwards, financial problems mounted on the family. Her Bikaveli works as an Accredited Social Health Activist in her village of 82 mile but she hardly earns more than Rs. 2,000 a month. But she has never given up and despite all ups and downs, she has five golds to her credit. She had also won WAKO India Junior National Kickboxing Championship, National Amateur Muay Thai Championship in 2016 and the recent National Savate Championship.

It was in Class IX when Kickboxing coach Pinaki Charaborty visited Darlong’s school and spotted her talent. The Tripura government has now stepped forward to offer her assistance. She comes out with flying colours with the support of her mother, government and makes the nation proud in the bigger stages.
