Rs 16 Lakh Vanishes From ISBT Account; Probe Ordered

Agartala: The disappearance of Rs 16 lakh from the account of the society that was running the Chandrapur Inter-State Bus Terminus, the premier terminus of Agartala from where most of the Inter-state buses operates, has evoked much suspense and transport Minister Pranajit Singa has ordered a thorough investigation into the matter.

During the previous Left Front Government, a society mostly comprising of government officials and leaders of the Leftist worker's organizations use to look after the operations of the ISBT. Since the formation of the BJP-IPFT government, society turned inoperative and remained dormant.

Recently the State Government through a decision has handed over the responsibility of looking after the ISBT operation to the Tripura Road Transport Corporation. The case of the missing cash was detected when the TRTC officials went to take charge of the ISBT.

As the society was not working since the formation of the new government and the Transport Department officials were looking after the functioning of the ISBT, the suspicion is revolving around the involvement of a section of the Transport Department officials.

The minister told reporters that the entire matter is suspicious and he has ordered an investigation of matter. According to him, since the new arrangement is made, TRTC is the only authorised body to withdraw money from the account of the ISBT society. Now it is to be determined who has withdrawn the money and responsibility will be fixed accordingly, he said.
