Agartala: Alert villagers of Ishanpur under Mohonpur sub-division in Khowai district of Tripura nabbed six persons while they were sneaking into India from Bangladesh evading the vigilant eyes of the BSF. Three of them were women – one young girl and two children. Local people immediately informed the BSF and all the detained persons were sent to a quarantine centre.

It is learnt that they went to Bangladesh before the imposition of the lockdown. Both their crossing over to Bangladesh through illegal means and return remains a mystery and raises questions about the BSF’s claim of a sealed border.

The incident took place amid a growing trend of coronavirus cases in Bangladesh causing fresh concern in the bordering States. The security forces have further tightened vigil along the border to prevent any kind of trans-border movement.

On the other hand, Bangladesh also taken preventive steps as many people who got stranded in India are still returning to their country through some check posts kept open to facilitate their return and the Agartala-Akhaura Check Post is one of them.

According to reports, altogether 183 Bangladeshi nationals who got stranded in India since the lockdown was imposed on March 24 have returned to their country through the Agartala-Akhaura check post and all of them were taken to the 14-day quarantine immediately after crossing the border.

Meanwhile, number of coronavirus affected people in Bangladesh is increasing rapidly. According to official reports, altogether 218 persons have been affected so far and out of them 20 died.
