Tripura CM Biplab Deb calls Manik Sarkar most corrupt Chief Minister

Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb castigated his predecessor Manik Sarkar by calling him the "most corrupt Chief Minister" of the state. Biplab was at New Delhi to attend the National Executive Meeting of the BJP. Speaking to reporters, Biplab made this scathing remark.

The Chief Minister said that the former CM (Manik Sarkar) portrayed a "saint-like" image but had done nothing during his tenure to curb the menace of drug peddlers.

“There was no action against those involved in drug peddling during Sarkar’s regime. The youth became addicted to drugs and many were involved with the illegal business. In the last five months of our government, we have arrested 204 people involved with drug trade. Most of them are CPI(M) supporters,” Deb said.

The BJP-IPFT government which came to power in March this year has maintained a strict stand against drug peddlers. More than 22,000 kg of cannabis has been seized from different parts from the state so far and over 100 cases have been registered in Sonamura sub-division of Sipahiajala district, which produces the highest amount of cannabis.
