Agartala: Tripura Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath who emerged as the spokesperson on behalf of the State government on coronavirus issue, has urged the farming community to start agricultural activities maintaining safe distance as continuing the food production system is imperative to ensure victory against the virus.

He said it has been noticed that a large number of farmers are not going to the field since the imposition of the lockdown in the country which will be detrimental for agricultural production in the State and eventually may cause a serious shortage of food in the coming days.

He urged the farmers to go to the field to avoid such a situation and told the police not to prevent the farmers from going to the fields after verifying their identity. He also told the government departments to extend all necessary help to the farmers so that they can continue their work.

He said in the last two years, the food production in the State has shown an upward trend and the State government’s target is to achieve self-sufficiency and only the farmers can make it possible.
