Tripura: Two Minor Girls Raped in Separate Incidents, 4 Held

AGARTALA: In two dastardly incidents in Tripura within a span of 24 hours, two minor girls were allegedly raped by three men and one person in the separate incidents respectively, police stated on Tuesday.

In the first incident, a 15-year-old tribal girl from Udaipur sub-division was allegedly gang- raped on Saturday and police have arrested three youths from Raiyabari in Tripura's Gomati district for the crime. The arrested youths were identified as 18 year- old Depsi Jamatia, 21 year- old Ananda Kishore Jamatia, and Khasrang Jamatia, aged 24.

After the arrest, a case was registered on Monday against the accused at Killa police station with case number 27/22, under IPC Section 376DA (gang rape of a woman below 16 years of age) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POSCO) Act 2012.

Police sources informed that the 15 year-old girl was allegedly in a relationship with one of the accused youth for almost one year and she came to Raiyabari after the youth called her there on Saturday.

However, the girl was reportedly taken by the youth to an abandoned place, where two of his friends were waiting for them.

The three then raped the girl and left her in a semi-conscious condition, according to Lakhshyabir Jamatia, officer-in-charge of Killa police station.

The girl managed to send a distress call to the police, following which they rescued the girl from the place where she was left.

In a separate incident in Tripura's Dhalai district, a 13 year-old girl was allegedly raped by a youth aged 23 years.

The incident reportedly occurred in Dhalai district's Chhailengta on Sunday. Police arrested the accused Ashit Debbarma of South Lalchhera, following an investigation into the alleged rape.

After the arrest, a case was registered against Debbarma under section 376(3) of the IPC and 4 of the POSCO Act 2012 at Chhailengta police station on Monday.
