Tripura to explore reasons for poor performance in Madhyamik exam

Agartala, June14: The Tripura government has expressed concern over the poor performance of students in the Madhyamik exam conducted by the Tripura Board of Secondary Examination (TBSE) and decided to constitute a committee of experts to explore reasons behind the poor performances of the students and suggest remedial measures.

The TBSE has recently published the result where only 59.59 per cent students could succeed in their first board examination, which is eight percent less compared to last year and lowest in the last decade.

Expressing grave concern over the dismal results in the Madhyamik exam, Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath said the State government will take necessary steps as per the recommendations of the proposed committee.

The students of the urban areas, however, had managed to succeed but the results of those living in Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council areas, comprising rural and hilly areas, took a nose dive. In these areas the pass percentage was only 39.57 per cent, which is 10 per cent less compared to last year.

President of the Tripura Board of Secondary Examinations Prof Mihir Deb said the students performed miserably in Mathematics and English which need special attention. He said every school should have dedicated teachers for these subjects.

Education Minister said the observations of Prof Deb also will be taken into consideration and the government will definitely consult him while taking important decisions on the overhaul of the education system. Nath also stressed the need to speed up the task of introducing CBSE course in the State and had a meeting in this matter on Tuesday.
