All Set for BB Creation's Raas Leela to be Held in Kalashetra

A three-day programme of Bhaona and 'Sampurna Raas Leela', organised by BB Creation, an organisation shaped by Basanta Kumar Barua and Bobby Sarma Baruah, will be held at the Srimanta Sankardeva International Auditorium of Kalakshetra, from November 23 to 25.

The cultural extravaganza, celebrating its 10-year anniversary this year, has been an invaluable addition to the city's cultural calendar that has attracted people from all walks of life since 2009.

The performing art that has its genesis in the Vaishnavite tradition of the State, has become quite an unmissable treat for the audiences. What is more important is that many young men and women have shown a keen interest in knowing more details about this art form. Besides entertaining, the festival has contributed immensely in building intercommunity bridges in Assam. Basanta Kumar Baruah initiated to bring traditional enactment of 'Bhaona' from the scriptures, which were confined to only Sattras and Naamghars, to the door step of the cosmopolitan lives of the Guwahatians.

As someone who is deeply inspired by the values, ideals and principles of Srimanta Sankaradeva, Baruah succeeded in bringing this great cultural heritage in the national arena, when the Sampurna Raas Leela Bhaona was held at the open air stage of the Meghdoot Theatre Complex of Sangeet Natak Akademi in New Delhi, on November 5, 2017, garnering wide appreciation. Besides that, the highly traditional and revered Sankari performance was enacted at the Eastern Zonal Centre in Kolkata on the occasion of the 8th Theatre Olympics, on March 4, this year. Dramatised by Jiten Sarma, and designed and directed by Basanta Kumar Barua, Sampurna Raas Leela is one of the 600 plays from across the world to be performed at the Theatre Olympics.

It has to be mentioned that since 2011, Basanta Baruah had assimilated a number of artistes from the Karbi, Bodo, Deori, Mising and Tea Tribe communities, motivating and providing them with a perfect platform to perform Raas Leela in their own dialects. This engagement of various communities in the Raas Leela Bhaona has been his most exceptional contribution that outshines everything else.

Everyone applauded the endeavour of Baruah and BB Creation in espousing the splendid cultural inheritance and strengthening the bond of unity and amity among the different communities.

This year, Sri Krishna Purnanga Raasleela will showcase performances by popular movie artistes Barsharani Bishaya and Aimee Barua. They will be supported by Debabrat Dutta, Saranga Bordoloi, Manoj Das, Diganta Bhuyan, Moon-Rajib, Montu Gogoi, among others. Besides a group from Narayanpur, a team from Bihali - 'Asom Nepali Natya Sanmilan' will perform Raas in Nepali language.

The Sanmilan will also felicitate Nrityacharya Jatin Goswami in the presence of two well-known artistes from Nepal, on November 25.
