Spain storm into quarters after drama vs Croatia

COPENHAGEN: Former champion Spain stormed into the quarterfinals of EURO 2020 after a thrilling Round 16 blockbuster against Croatia here at Parken Stadium on Monday where they won by 5-3 in Extra-time.

After the schuduled match was ended in 3-3 draw, Spain came back strongly in Extra-time and netted twice in first 15 minutes of play. Alvaro Morata scored in 100th minute while Mikel Oyarzabal sealed the victory after three minutes.

Croatia started the second half of Extra-time brightly. A shot by Pasalic narrowly goes past the post. Spain gain control of possession again, slowing the game down. Croatia's tired legs surely do not have enough to make another comeback.

Earlier, a howler from Spain goalkeeper Unai Simon gave Croatia a 1-0 in 20th minute lead before Pablo Sarabia equalized in 38th minute of the first half.

Cesar Azpilicueta gave Spain 2-1 lead 57th minute before Ferran Torres doubled their lead in the 76th minute. Croatia clawed back with two late goals to get the game into extra time. Mislav Oršic (85th minute) and Mario Pasalic (90+2nd minute) scored in the dying moments. Agencies
