AASU protests against discrimition

GUWAHATI, February 15: The members of the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) on Sunday staged protest at different centres where exam for the posts of Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel was held. The students’ body alleged that the Railway authorities are conspiring against recruitment of youths from the State in particular and the northeastern region in general in the RPF.

The AASU informed that a total of 20,203 applications were submitted by job aspirants from across the region for the posts as advertised by the RPF. Of these 659 posts, 68 posts are for the RPF, Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR).

The students’ body stated that 18,761 applications out of 20,203 applications were rejected by the authorities concerned.

The AASU has demanded 100 per cent job reservation for local youths in the Railways and other Central government sectors in the State. In protest against the alleged discrimition, effigy of Union Railway Minister was also burnt by the AASU members in the city.
