Another hole in Saraighat bridge

Guwahati, May 2: Traffic came to a standstill over Saraighat bridge on Monday evening after yet another large hole appeared in the half-a-century old bridge. “A portion of the Saraighat bridge has developed a large hole. The Kamrup district administration has asked the NF Railway authority to repair it immediately,” a spokesman of the district administration said. He said the Kamrup district administration is in touch with Senior Divisiol Engineer of NF Railway RK Singh who said the repair works will be completed by tomorrow. Vehicular movement was thrown out of gear since Monday afternoon, and long queues of vehicles were seen from Radisson Blu hotel to Tolaram Baf Hospital in North Guwahati. People were even seen abandoning public vehicles and crossing the bridge on foot.
