APCC show-cause: No reply from rebel MLAs

Guwahati, Sept 14: Ten Congress legislators, including Himanta Biswa Sarma, have opted not to reply to the show-cause notices slapped by the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee.Sarma has joined the BJP, while the other nine legislators after a sitting with Amit Shah recently are likely to follow suit soon.

"We had served show-cause notices to them. Today was the late day for submitting their replies. But none of the legislators have replied. Now the party's discipliry committee will take suitable action as per the party constitution," APCC president Anjan Dutta said today.

He said as Himanta Biswa Sarma is a member of the AICC, the tiol leadership will initiate action against him. There are indications that the party may expel the legislators for at least six months.

Asked as to why the party is dilly-dallying over action against the rebel legislators indulging openly in anti-party activities, Dutta said, "We have to see the legal side as well, so that no one can later take legal recourse."
