Assam-galand border row toll 158 since 1972

GUWAHATI, March 6: Clashes along the Assam-galand border took 158 lives since 1972, according to government records.

In the first incident that took place on March 14, 1972, one Assam Police man was killed in a firing by the galand Police in Sivasagar district.

In another land encroachment related incident on January 5,  1979, 54 people were killed and 39 injured in Assam’s Golaghat district bordering galand.

In June 1985, a three-day long border clashes in Golaghat district’s Merapani claimed the lives of 28 Assam Police personnel and 13 civilians.

ga miscreants also torched 704 houses located on the Assam side of the border.
