Assam Panchayat Polls: 10 Valid documents  for voter identity

GUWAHATI: Ready to cast your votes for the panchayat poll? Never forget to take any of the ten documents given below with you for your identification.

According to State Election Commission, every voter has to provide his/her identity at the polling station before casting vote. As his/her identification, according to the SEC, a voter has to display any of these ten documents – Electoral Photo Identity Card, Photo Electoral Roll, passport, driving licence, identity cards by government employees, pensioner’s identity card in case of retired employees, school/university identity cards for students, bank passbook, MGNREGA job card and PAN card.

According to SEC sources, the State Election Commissioner is going to issue a directive to the deputy commissioners soon where the first phase of panchayat poll is going to be held on December 5 this year.

SEC sources further said that the printing of ballot papers for the first phase of panchayat poll is nearing completion. Since a voter has to cast four votes for four different posts – one each for gaon panchayat member, gaon panchayat president, anchalik panchayat member and zila parishad councilor – four different colours of ballot papers are going to be used in the rural poll. While white ballot is going to be used for GP member, yellow ballot is to be used for GP president, pink is for AP member and light blue is for ZPC. There will not be NOTA (none of the above) provision in the ballot papers.
