Budget 2019-20: Rs 6,590 Crore for Northeast Frontier Railway

GUWAHATI: The budget for Railway Ministry proposed for the year 2019-20 has allocated adequate resources for all ongoing projects and development of new infrastructure, including passenger amenities the north-eastern region. While the gross allocation for Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has been put at Rs 6,590 crore, the Net Plan Outlay has been pegged at Rs. 4226 crore.

According to press release, some of the major allocations are – Rs. 2,895 crore for construction of new lines; Rs.15 crore for completion of some left out work of gauge conversion (from metre gauge to board gauge); Rs. 43 crore for improving traffic facilities in various stations; over Rs. 36 crore for acquiring new rolling stocks like coaches, wagons etc; nearly Rs. 30 crore for increasing safety at level crossings; Rs. 383 crore for replacement of worn-out railway track with new ones; Rs. 69 crore for repair of various bridges, tunnels etc; Rs.186 crore for improving passengers’ amenities in various stations; over Rs. 66 crore for modernization of various workshops which play a key role in overhauling of coaches and engines; Rs 59 crore for staff welfare activities like repairing of quarters, modernization of hospital, sport facilities etc, the release said.
